ABOUT MARSHA

Marsha Shaines
Founder

Providing personalized advice and insights on all aspects of the college admission process.

I created College Strategies in 2004, and have been helping students and their parents navigate the college admissions process as an independent college admissions consultant in my Kensington, Maryland office since then.  I graduated cum laude from Smith College with a major in English Literature, and spent my junior year at Dartmouth College, where I was a Rufus Choate Scholar. I received a J.D. from Boston University School of Law, and was Deputy General Counsel of the Smithsonian Institution.

I have an active college visit schedule, and strong relationships with admissions professionals.  I’ve served on the board of College Tracks, an independent college access program operating in Montgomery County, Maryland public high schools, as a college application essay mentor for the Posse Foundation, as an alumna interviewer for applicants to Smith, and as a mentor to Boston University Law School students pursing legal careers in the areas of not-for-profit organizations and art law.

I’m knowledgeable and experienced.  I develop positive, trusting relationships with students and parents. From my experience both as a college admissions consultant and previously as an in-house attorney for a large non-profit organization, I research and process information accurately and efficiently, create and implement effective strategies, and am an excellent writer and editor.
